Concept Model
“Interweave”: In my site, modern buildings interweave into a historic city— Montreal; I saw this mix of buildings coming together in layers over time, eventually the city takes form as a mesh of buildings. I use white string to weave through two steel arches, evoking the pattern of the stained and wired glass windows, and their arched frames seen in the historic buildings found though out the city.
“Entertaining”: I choose a simple semi-circular shape to provide a feeling of softness, and a sense of safety. I choose to let strings sag down naturally instead of making them tight, to evoke the form of hammock, and the thought of lying on it.
Site Plan
The site I chose is a city park in downtown Montreal, Quebec, which is Place d'Youville. This is a charming and historical city with a lot of beautiful, old school style architectures. The park is a typical town square style, surrounded by buildings cross streets on all sides. Place d'Youville is an important site in the history of Canada. From 1844 to 1894, It used as the first location of the Parliament of the United Canada, after moving from Kingston. Since 2010, this park has been used as an historical site to record the history of Canada.
Habitat is a small living space that is custom for designer herself to live for one year. The intention of the design is focusing on everyday domestic situations and determine how you use these spaces. I love cooking, sitting on hammock which are the main focus on this design. The woven hammock hanging over on an open space where can see through to the first floor, effectively let sunlight going through in an open space for this tinny studio.
For keeping a good mood, high energy and be more efficient when working. The south façade I choose using a tall piece of stained-glass window to catch enough lighting during the daytime also reduce the brightness through the colorful glasses bring in an enjoyable experience.
